Desh Drohi was released right during the time when there was growing unrest against North Indians in Mumbai. The movie tries to highlight the issue and examine it from both sides. However noble the idea is, the movie just comes across as lame and over the top.
The story does capture how an innocent guy from a village in UP is caught in the underworld web in Mumbai and how life changes a person. But that's all that is going on for this movie. The movie creates situations that are so forced that it is unbelievable. I am pretty sure the writer was ragged by Mumbaikars and still has insecurities about it. Every line in this movie tries to sell the idea that Mumbai is an evil place and Mumbaikars are spawn of Satan. Geez, so much insecurity.
Now this movie would have been remotely better if it wasn't for KRK and his acting. It is easier to get an alien to have tea in your house than getting this guy to act. The guy doesn't even attempt. As for the rest of the cast they were just phoning it in but everyone is Jack Nicholson in front of KRK.
In all the movie is a very bad attempt at focusing on political corruption and civil unrest, with awful acting....I am sorry Sonu Nigam you are a better actor.
